RENSON Slidefix, the first fabric sun protection that opens to the side
Renson takes center stage at the BAU trade show with its Slidefix – a revolutionary innovation following on the latest evolution of architecture and residents’ needs. Sliding windows can be found in many homes instead of rear doors. The Slidefix is the first to respond perfectly to this trend with fabric sun protection that automatically slides open to the side. This type of fabric sun protection slides open in the direction of the sliding window. A motion that’s actually quite logical and, especially, quite practical: in this manner, a sliding window also stays perfectly usable as a passageway even with sun protection installed.
The Slidefix is extremely wind-resistant thanks to its Fixscreen technology and is characterized by its durability, limited maintenance and integrated water drainage. Both the cassette and the profiles are discreetly integrated into the façade and the Slidefix can be combined with the full range of Renson fabric sun protection for a consistent look. The Slidefix is available in sizes up to a maximum of 4000 mm in width and 3000 mm in height and can be combined in various configurations up to a maximum of 8 m in width.

Modern house designed around glass-on-glass corner window with a view of nature
In the Dutch Goes it was the look at a piece of untouched nature that convinced Tom and Gerda Schraven to build their new home there. Therefore, the challenge for the architect was to create his design around the beautiful look from the living room. The result: a large glass-on-glass corner window through which the residents are not impeded in their view on the outside. Necessary consequence: the sun protection had to adjust to the architectural design.
Tom Schraven (client): „At the time, we bought this plot especially for the fantastic view we had here on the pond and the surrounding unspoilt nature. Our main requirement towards the architect was to tailor his design accordingly. He was immediately on the same wavelength and saw the design of our house as a kind of terrarium with a view from the living room on nature. Therefore, from the first stroke of the pen the architect adopted a large glass-on-glass corner window that presents from the living room a panoramic wide-screen view on this magnificent piece of nature. And the rest he designed around it, completely tailored to our most important wish.”
Sun protection fabric serving architecture and not vice versa
That the architect took the wishes of the client seriously, also proves his claim against the contractor to refrain from a support or column in the corner of the glass window. Matter of compromising nothing on the panoramic view to the outside. „He extended that reasoning also to the sun protection fabric. Here too, no guiding systems could be visible to disturb the view” Tom Schraven adds. „According to him, the sun protection fabric had to adapt to the house and not vice versa”, was his reply to the notification of the contractor that an withdrawing screen was not an option because of the lightweight construction of the fixed awning above the window.
Tom Schraven: „The view was a priority for us in the design of the home. By also including the corner in the glass you get an extra dimension, a panoramic view to the outside”
Only one suitable solution: The Panovista Max
For Gerda Schraven that was a concerned wait: „The architect did design a nice house with a fantastic view through the large corner window, but in order to manage the incident sunlight efficiently without disrupting the panoramic view, at that time, there was still no ready-made solution available. And then you start thinking: what about the carpet and the furniture, … because with the directly incident sunlight through the big window, over time they would inevitably become discoloured.”
Eventually, the clients did discover the appropriate solution at a trade fair in Ghent. There they discovered the Panovista Max external sun protection screens for glass-on-glass corner windows of Renson. And that proved both aesthetically and functionally the missing link to keep the incident sunlight manageable in this specific application.
Stefanie Sulmon (Product Manager Renson): „The Panovista Max consists of two fabric parts controlled by one motor. At the corner, the ends of the fabric rollers in the box interlock with two gearwheels. This way both screens of this corner sun protection go always perfectly up and down simultaneously. When lowering the sun protection fabric, both fabric parts zip together at the corner. Thus, both screens are connected which not only takes care of a nice finished assembly, but also a high wind resistance of up to 90 km/h).

To prevent overheating is a must, but inside sun protection is not an option
„The sun shines directly on this large corner window shortly after noon. This was obviously our choice, but it also means that without sun protection it becomes quickly far too hot indoors,” according to Tom Schraven. „In hot periods you cannot be in the house at that moment due to the heat. Fortunately, since the Panovista Max was installed here that belongs to the past. Even with the screen lowered, the fantastic view to the outside remains, while the sun protection fabric keeps the heat outside.”
Gerda Schraven: „Even if it is very hot outside, now it is still cool inside. Therefore, we are very satisfied with the result, it meets all our requirements.”
According toTom Schraven in this case there was actually no other solution. Unless you accept guiding systems or cables on the corner, but that is exactly what we did not want, because otherwise the overall picture would be disturbed. And if you just like us have had designed this property for the sake of the panoramic look, it would be a shame having to make concession at that point again. „We have also attempted to have sun protection fabric at the inside of the large window,” he adds, „but that was not useful, because then the heat is already indoors and the harm took already place.”
„It is indeed much more efficient to stop the sun already outdoors,” concurs Stefanie Sulmon. „With blades or curtains indoors you welcome the heat inside your home, while with external sun protection screens you stop the sun rays already before they get the chance to reach the glass. And that saves a lot of money to still keep it pleasantly cool indoors – without an energy consuming air conditioning unit – during warm periods, especially with large glass surfaces like this.”

- There are no aluminium side channels or cables in the corner that can disturb the panoramic view to the outside.
