Brand awareness clearly benefits from an involvement in cycling
Indeed, Renson will continue to appear as the sponsor on the world cycling tour team’s trousers and shirts. In fact, it’s the same team as last year, despite now being called the ‘Sunweb Team’. On 5 January the team was presented at the airport in the German city of Münster, being one of the bases used by Sunweb, the new chief sponsor. Renson will certainly remain on board until the end of 2017, and probably for longer, as partner of the ambitious, international team featuring Tom Dumoulin (NL), Warren Barguil (FR) and new team leaders Michael Matthews (AUS) and Wilco Kelderman (NL).
So the name Renson is sure to be appearing on shirts and trousers of the Sunweb Team cyclists at least until the end of 2017. In 2016, the disappointment early in the year, following a serious accident during the training camp in Calpé, was compensated by a number of successes, including 2 victories and 1 week with the pink jersey in the Giro d’Italia, plus Tom Dumoulin’s heroic victory during the Tour de France stage in Andorra.
Paul Renson (CEO Renson): “We are totally convinced of the benefits offered by this kind of sport sponsoring. After all – as it appears from all the feedback I am given – it generates plenty of brand awareness among a wide audience and on an international level. The latter is also the reason why we chose to team up with this international cycling team, in our ambition to become a world player in the field of ventilation, sun protection and terrace coverings.”
This year, with as well the men’s, as the women’s and the so-called’development team’ (a training team preparing young people for their debut with older cyclists at World Tour level) racing under the same name and in the same kit, Renson also automatically becomes the sponsor of no less than 3 cycling teams.
The sporting ambitions of the Sunweb Team are mainly focussed on the long-term, which in no way makes them any less worthwhile: indeed their aim is to race for victory in a major tour in 2018. Therefore the year 2017 needs to be devoted to creating the right foundations to help make this dream come true. This does not of course mean that the World Tour formation won’t be targeting some success this year as well.
Iwan Spekenbrink (General Manager Team Sunweb): “In attracting Michael Matthews we have a tremendous talent on board, with all it takes to do well in the spring classics. With his victories in Paris-Nice and all the major tours (Tour de France, Giro, Vuelta) and places of honour in the Amstel Gold Race, Milaan-Sanremo and at the World Championships in Richmond and Quatar he has indeed already demonstrated his great worth.”
